Dr Anna Machwic graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, where she majored in Graphic Arts and specialised in Graphic Design. In 2010, Dr Machwic attained the title of Doctor of Arts in the field of fine art. Since 2003, she has been teaching classes in illustration at her alma mater; since 20016, she has been teaching editorial graphic design, design practice and digital publication design as part of the English-language track at PJAIT. Since 2008, Dr Machwic has curated the international “Książka dobrze zaprojektowana” (“Well-designed book”) competition and the accompanying “The Children’s book — how is it done?” conference. This event, organised by the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, is an opinion-forming review of current trends in higher education in the area of children’s book design. She has participated in many international conferences, including: The European Art of Illustration (Warsaw, 2009), Think(in) Visual Communication (Warsaw, 2014), Illustration Research (Krakow, 2012), and Laughter in Visual Communication (Warsaw, 2016). Dr Machwic has also led numerous workshops in illustration, both in Poland and abroad, e.g. at the North Wales School of Art and Design, Wrexham (UK) and the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp (Belgium). She has participated in reviews and post-competition poster exhibitions in Poland and abroad, including in: Ogaki (Japan, 2002 and 2004), Colorado (US, 2003), Trnava (Slovakia, 2003 and 2006), the Polish Poster Biennale (Katowice, 2004), the International Poster Biennale (Wilanów, 2004, 2006, 2008), as well as in satirical drawing competitions. She won awards during the 1st and 2nd Young Polish Course Portraiture Forum, organised by the Museum of Caricature in Warsaw. Dr Machwic has also sat on the juries of many contests, e.g. the International Satyricon Exhibition (Legnica, 2014). She has published articles in magazines and monographs.
